Whips of Westfield, The Rise and Decline of an American Industry.  

In the late 1800's Westfield Massachusetts, earned the title of nicknamed 'Whip City' by virtue of its having become the hub for whip making in the United States.  At it's peak, Westfield's factories and branches produced over 95%  whip production in the world.  

Westfield not only dominated in the number and value of high quality whips produced, it also held over 60% of the patents for inventions on both whip construction and the machines used by the industry.
